Review: The Sun is also a Star

The Sun is also a star is a Ya Contemporary By Nicola Yoon. Is it about:

“A story of a girl, a boy, and the universe

Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?”

My Thoughts:

Ive been meaning to read this book for ages and finally found time to read it. I was able to buddy read this with my friend Sasha over at MidnightBookgirl. I really enjoyed how easy it was to read and how fast paced the book was. But then it was set over 24 hours so i understand why it needed to be. I praise Nicola for being able to fit so much in a time span of 24 hours. I really enjoyed our two main characters, Natasha and Daniel. They both had their own battles in lives but when they were together, it was like they were able to breathe again. Natasha is from Jamacia who is about to be deported back however she battling with the industries to stay. I liked how headstrong she was and i was really rooting for her. Daniel’s family is from Korea who his parents have very high beliefs for their son who of course doesn’t want what his family want for him. I liked how laidback and funny Daniel was, he really was the right person to help Natasha to relax. This book deal with so much within the space of 24 hours it really surprised me. It deals with: deporting, family traditions, Sibling quarrels, family difficulties. Their were three different povs in the book, Natasha, Daniel and the universe. The universe chapters are where the book explains different aspects of the book, this could be how different characters are feeling, history of different words.

I gave this book 4 stars as i wanted more at the end.

4 star branch

I definitley recommend this book, if you would like a cute love story and lots of laughs.

  1. I plan to read this one before the film is released. I bought the ebook of when it was first released but never got around to reading it. I’m glad to see that you enjoyed it! Hopefully, the film does it justice or even improves on it. The cast is gorgeous ❤
